More Torque, Power, and Runtime
Included in the kit is the 2602-20 1/2-inch hammer drill/driver, which is able to drill 20 percent faster in concrete than the competition. It owes its robust performance to a four-pole motor that delivers 550 inch/pounds of peak torque and 29,000 BPM, and it features a variable-speed trigger that provides speed control between 0-1,700 RPM (high speed) and 0-450 RPM (low speed) and an all-metal 1/2-inch single-sleeve ratcheting chuck for bit retention. For added flexibility and long life, this hammer drill/driver has the only metal gear case in its class.

M18 Cordless Work Light provides a fold-away hook for hands free use. View larger.
This kit also comes with the 2620-20 Sawzall reciprocating saw. Ideal for creating vertical cuts, this powerful saw features a patented gear-protecting clutch for long life and optimal performance. A level action Quik-Lok blade clamp keeps your workpiece secure, while a variable-speed trigger ensures consistent, precise cuts. For added convenience, the saw's battery-power gauge clearly displays remaining runtime.

Able to make fast, clean horizontal cuts, the kit's 2630-20 circular saw boasts rough-and-tough magnesium guards for maximum durability and an electronic brake to quickly stop the blade. An aircraft aluminum shoe provides accuracy, while an ergonomic, compact, and lightweight design includes a soft-grip handle for all-day comfort and control.

Finally, the work light included in the kit illuminates your work space. Its compact, ergonomic design combines with a 135-degree rotating head for easy adjustments, while a fold-away utility hook enables both hands-free use and space-saving storage.

Reliable, long-lasting LITHIUM-ION power is just one part of a full feature set.
M18 Lithium-Ion Power: Compact, Lightweight, and Dependable
Cordless power frees you from the hassle of extension cords, but a cordless tool is only as reliable as its battery--that's where Milwaukee's M18 XC high-capacity lithium-ion batteries come in. Engineered to deliver torque, speed, and extended runtime, these batteries make use of Milwaukee's trademarked Digital Power Management technology to ensure long battery life. Additionally, overload protection, a temperature management system, and individual cell voltage monitoring guard your battery and your tools during tough jobs.

A convenient power gauge on each battery displays remaining runtime, and a second battery is included with the kit, so you never have to worry about running out of power in the middle of a task. Plus the M18 lithium-ion battery charger is designed to recharge batteries in one hour or less.

Since lithium-ion batteries are significantly smaller and lighter than 18-volt NiCad batteries, they play an integral role in keeping Milwaukee's M18 tools ergonomic and comfortable to use. For added versatility, M18 tools also work with even lighter M18 compact lithium-ion batteries (not included).

M18 Series Tools: Innovative, Powerful, and Easy to Handle
Launched in 2008, the M18 series from Milwaukee balances power and ergonomics. M18 tools pack the best-in-class, heavy-duty performance that you expect from Milwaukee into lighter, more compact bodies than those of traditional tools. This translates to improved versatility on the jobsite and reduced user fatigue at the end of the workday.

18v Power Tools - The Advantages of Lithium-Ion Battery Powered Cordless Tools

!±8± 18v Power Tools - The Advantages of Lithium-Ion Battery Powered Cordless Tools

The technology used in cordless power tools has moved forwards in leaps and bounds over the past few years. Firstly the introduction of NiMH batteries replaced Ni-Cad batteries in cordless power tools and now NiMH batteries are being replaced by new Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries, which have been introduced to the industry. Many of the main tool manufacturers are now using 18v Li-ion batteries in their cordless tools. One such manufacturer being Makita, whose 18v power tools are leading the way in the use of this new technology.

Having said that, Li-ion batteries have been in use in other electronic appliances, such as laptops, for some time but they have only recently begun to be used in cordless power tools. It is a big advancement in the building and DIY industries as Li-ion batteries have many advantages over older type batteries. These new 18v power tools will benefit both professionals and people who merely dabble in DIY as a hobby at home.

One of the main benefits of a Li-ion battery powered cordless tool is the quick charging time. A Li-ion battery can completely re-charge in about 15-20 minutes using a rapid charger, whereas a Ni-Cad battery takes a couple of hours, often longer, and even NiMH batteries take a long time to charge.

This can waste valuable time on a job or just be very annoying if you have forgotten to charge a tool that you need straight away. Using traditional cordless power tools you have to remember to put them on charge the night before, or at least a few hours before you want to use them.

Another advantage of Li-ion batteries is that they hold their power over time rather than loosing it like Ni-Cad and NiMH batteries. You can charge a Li-ion battery and leave it for a couple of months and when you come to use it again it will still have some power. If you charged an older style battery and left it for a couple of months it would have no juice when you came to use it so you'd have to put it on to charge and wait a few hours until you could use it at all.

Li-ion batteries also often come in twos so you can work all day without ever having to wait for one to charge. They have another advantage over older batteries also, in that they are incredibly light considering the amount of power they offer. This makes them convenient and easy to use, even for the inexperienced person or hobbyist who is perhaps less accustomed to holding a tool up for long periods of time. Unless you are really strong and fit holding a tool at eye level for a long time can really hurt.

So it seems that Lithium-ion battery 18v power tools are the future for cordless power tools, as they offer so many advantages over older, heavier batteries. Many professionals are using 18v power tools already and it looks certain that hobbyists and home DIY-ers will follow suit to get all the benefits of this technology.
